Overview of the Preparatory School Curriculum The Prep curriculum follows the National Curriculum of England and Wales for Year 6 and Year 7. Regular meetings are held between Secondary and Primary
teachers to develop the Prep School curriculum and allow clear lines of communication to be developed between all three areas of the school. This communication
allows us to develop an environment that selects the best of both areas and present a curriculum experience that enhances the skills of all our Prep School pupils.
The pastoral care of Primary and the specialization of Secondary is particularly targetted to allow us to achieve this.
There is also continuous assessment that is carried out by class teachers that may be a formalised testing point or an informal professional observation that is
communicated to both the student and parents.
Homework This is a very important aspect of Prep school life as it helps to develop work undertaken in the class as well as to prepare for future tasks. Students can
receive up to 60 minutes a night, with approximately 1 hour per week for Maths, Science, English, Humanities and specialist subjects.
I.E.C Intensive English Classes At Harrow School we often assess children for placement who are bright, capable pupils, but whose English language skills are not up to the appropriate level for them
to successfully access the curriculum in the mainstream classes. These children have huge potential to do well at school, but just need a little extra time,
and extra tuition, to bring their English language skills up to the standard of other pupils in the school. For this reason we have IEC (Intensive English Classes)
in the Prep School. As soon as the children have made significant improvements in English and are ready, we transfer them into a mainstream class.
