Library Events Each year the library holds several different events to help promote reading and books. By doing so we hope to encourage students to visit the library outside of class time and see that books are only one of the things that a library can offer. World Book Day Our most recent events took place to celebrate World Book day 2012 with a week-long series of contests and activities. The competitions ranged from literary (matching quotes with the books they came from) to sporty (dodge ball in the library). We also created a chance for students and staff to vote online for their favourite books. The most popular titles were announced on the last day of Book Week. The students really enjoyed finding out the best loved books as chosen by the whole school. And an interesting result is that those books are now flying off the shelves even more than they were before. Guinness World Record Day Our Guinness World Records day has also been very popular. The event takes place just after the new edition is released. We usually hold three competitions related to things that could possibly be in the book – each winner receives a copy of the new Guinness Book of Records. Last year we held a star jump contest, an eating contest (eating an assortment of round food like breakfast cereal and wasabi peas with chopsticks isn’t easy!) and bucket ball competition. Boys Borrowing! In order to encourage the boys to borrow more books, we’re currently doing something special for boys. Miss Jan made an amazing giant Godzilla display. Then as the boys borrowed more and more books, we took it upon ourselves to destroy the city… Once the boys have reached our target of 10,000 books, we will hold a special celebration with games and prizes. And yes it will be only for boys! We regularly hold book related events, so if you would like to know what’s going on please check out our blog for more details.
