Harrow School Orchestra

With over thirty members, the Harrow Orchestra focuses on rehearsals for performances throughout the year, highlights of which are the Christmas Carol Concert, Spring Concert and Summer Concert.  Repertoire ranges from piano concertos to modern film scores.  With both accomplished players and less experienced musicians in all the orchestral sections, this really is the best way for young players to improve their chosen instruments and to gain experience of live performance, sight reading and working with a conductor.

Thai Ensemble

Traditional Thai music is alive and well at Harrow.  Our ensemble regularly performs at concerts; always impress us with their talent.  We believe that all parts of Thai culture are important in the school, and we are happy to be able to support this valuable asset to our department.  With a wide range of instruments, students are taught the traditional values surrounding Thai music, as well as new and traditional pieces written by popular traditional Thai composers.

Harrow Jazz Band

The Harrow Jazz Band has gone from strength to strength over the past couple of years.  Band members have come and gone, but the music lives on.  With a repertoire ranging from smooth jazz to classic swing, old favorites to modern pop with a twist, the Jazz Band are sure to impress wherever they perform.  With a long list of venues and performances under their belt, the Harrow Jazz Band have represented the school on numerous occasions.

The Rock Bands

With around ten rock bands in the school, there’s always the sound of a wailing electric guitar or thumping drums somewhere around the department!  In contrast to other Music Activities, the bands are loud, proud and ready to rock!   We fully support our musicians who choose to perform modern rock music, and we believe that creative freedom is the key to their enjoyment and success in this popular activity.

Chamber Groups

Focusing primarily on pieces from the Baroque and Classical periods, the Chamber Ensemble consists of advanced musicians and Music Scholars.  The standard to join this group is kept very high in order to ensure the very best results.  Other Chamber groups are available for the less experienced classical musician.

Male/Female & Mixed Choirs

Consisting of our two choral groups; ‘The Ladies of Harrow’ and ‘The Gentlemen of Harrow,’ the senior choir combines to sing a healthy mix of classic choral pieces and modern contemporary pieces.  With members representing each year of the Secondary school, the Harrow Choir continues to impress with both solo performances and group based choral works.

Ensemble Groups

We have a range of ensembles here at Harrow, ranging from woodwind to guitar, brass to percussion.  Groups are led by our visiting instrumental teachers, who can provide valuable knowledge about the instrument as well as playing and performance techniques.  These ensemble groups are then encouraged to perform throughout the year at our concerts.
