Careers Careers guidance is an integral part ofstudent developmentat Harrow, the department strives to inspire students with a positive attitude and to raise aspirations. Guidance is given to raise awareness of opportunities available and to stimulate focus on achieving long and short term career objectives. We aim to gear the students to meet the demands of very competitive university entry requirements and a very competitive business world. The Careers program is delivered in different ways to the students such as, life skills lessons, means testing, work experience and guidance consultations.
Careers within Life Skills lessons During these lessons students engage in conversations about what careers they may wish to pursue, research opportunities available, gain an understanding of different careers and plan on how to achieving their goals. Students develop their Curriculum Vitae and are taken through the job application process, including conducting mock interviews.
Self reflection testing. Self awareness and self reflection is an important part of progress, students are giving the opportunity to reflect on aspects of their personality, academic ability and matters influencing their careers choice. During year 11 students are given the opportunity to complete the Morrisby test, which is a test carried out by over 200,000 students worldwide every year, the test is a comprehensive test to help the students reflect on their careers and university choice. One on one feedback is given to students who participate in the test from a UK specialist who travels from the UK to give consultation sessions to these students, parents are also welcome to join this feedback session.
On going support in years 12 and 13 is availableto students who take the Morrisby tests, to provide students with professional careers guidance and help with their university application process.
Work experience Work experience is an important aspect of student’s development. All year 11 students complete one weeks work experience. We have an ever growing bank of professional companies within Bangkok that allow our students to join them for one week to sample work within that careers field , enabling students to gain a greater understanding of the career and if they would like to pursue that type of career. Year 12 students have on-going support to provide them with placements throughout the year, to riseawareness of careers opportunities. A wealth of work experience can aid the chances of gaining a placement in the students choose of university.
Guidance consultations Individual impartial assistance is given to students as and when required to help inform them on questions they may have regarding careers. This along other resources available within the school aims to students helps prepare student for adult life. |
