A Learning Community
As a learning community Harrow Bangkok is a community of communities. Members of the school community come from many countries and nationalities and speak many different languages. This diversity finds expression through a number of different entities within the life of the school. Living in a diverse community poses many social challenges. Presenting students with challenges that take them out of their comfort zones is very much at the heart of what Harrow Bangkok attempts to do in its community life. Good examples are found in House competitions when students who would not normally play sports under the hot sun of Thailand are found on sports days giving their best for their Houses. Similarly, the school's extensive outdoor education programmes which include House camps, school expeditions and the Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions, challenge students to achieve beyond their normal expectations.
Even parents are asked to move outside their comfort zones by supporting various school activities and even playing football in the annual inter-House parents' football tournament. They are also required to allow their children to participate in events that normally they might try to protect their children from. Most importantly parents are asked to support their children when they are participating in school events and to support Friends of Harrow which coordinates parental involvement.
Never far from doing what they ask of their students, teachers also live on the edge of their comfort zones, by moving to live in another country such as Thailand for the purpose of sharing their experience, expertise and passion for learning with students from other cultures. Like their students they are always learning new knowledge and skills both for the classroom and the many activities outside it.
Our growing Alumni group has become increasingly active and we look forward to their increasing involvement in the life of the school.
