Expeditions at Harrow International School

When?
Expeditions at HIS take place in the week before half term in the second term. The length of each expedition depends on the Year Group taking part. (Please note that Year 11 go towards the end of June).
Where?
Expeditions are undertaken to all parts of Thailand though most expedition sites are within a few hours’ drive of Bangkok. Transport includes school coaches, trains of the State Railways and air travel.
Why?
Expeditions are a fundamental aspect of a child’s all round education at HIS. They are undertaken in year groups and provide a focus for increasing independence in young people. They also provide for a week of “classrooms without walls” using the natural environment for a huge range of out of school activities including community service and field study. Expeditions are amongst the favourite activities of students at HIS.
How?
Expeditions are meticulously planned and led by trained professionals. Safety considerations are of paramount importance. All expeditions are checked by the Expeditions’ Coordinator as well as the leader of the Expedition on pre-visits. A staff to student ratio of 1-10 or better is the norm. Most of the Expeditions have been to the same tried and trusted sites for many years and this will continue into the future. All outside visits including day outings are thoroughly risked assessed and follow the school’s strict Expeditions’ Policy.

Costs :

Expeditions range in price from 8,000 to 15,000 baht per trip. Parents are billed in the first invoice of the year. All expeditions are a compulsory part of a child’s education at HIS.
Other trips available :
Other expeditions and visits both within and outside the Kingdom of Thailand are undertaken on a voluntary basis at various times throughout the year but particularly at half term and holiday times. Trips to Rome, Japan, Mount Kinabaloo, Africa, China and Switzerland have taken place in recent years. White water rafting and diving trips are planned for Thailand in 2009.

The Expeditions’ Coordinator, Mr. Gerry Carter, is available to discuss any aspect of residential visits or day outings undertaken by HIS. He may be contacted on 0853225961 (English or Thai languages spoken).
