True to the tradition of Harrow School in England, Harrow International School Bangkok cherishes the House system as a means of encouraging co-operation and friendly competition within a supportive environment.

All students from Year 1 on, together with the school staff, are allocated to Houses whose names reflect international characters of courage and determination. The six celebrities include old Harrovians and statesmen Winston Churchill and Pandit Nehru and the poet Lord Byron, while Thailand is honoured through its brave Queen Suriyothai and the public service of the Sonakul family. Helen Keller overcame physical adversity to become an inspired teacher. The Houses are given colours – Byron (green), Churchill (blue), Keller (yellow), Nehru (red), Sonakul (orange) and Suriyothai (purple) – and these are celebrated when pupils wear the House sports shirts.

In the Secondary School students belong to House-based tutor groups according to the Year group. Tutors are responsible for the formal pastoral programme and many activities are House or inter-House related. These include Sports Day, the House Camps, the House Shout and support for community projects.

A Head of House is the pivotal person in a student’s development while at Harrow. With the assistance of House Tutors and subject teachers, the Head of House pastors, monitors and mentors each student’s progress through the various comfort zones they must face on the journey from childhood to adulthood in the Secondary years.
