On Monday, the 12th of October, the first of the major Prep House competitions took place, in the form of the Prep House Football competition.
The tournament was separated into three competitions, with overall points combining to find a Prep House champion. The three competitions were Year 7 boys, Year 6 boys, and a combined Year 6 and 7 girls group. The games were played in great spirit and enthusiasm, resulting in one of the more evenly contested competitions we have had to date.
In the girls’ competition, Keller came third, Nehru second, with Byron the eventual champions. This competition was extremely close, with perceived ‘upsets’ occurring on a regular basis. In the Year 6 boys’ competition, 3rd place went to Suriyothai, second to Keller, and first place to Byron. Once again, great determination and spirit were shown in this group. In the Year 7 boys’ competition, third place went to Suriyothai, second to Churchill, and first once again went to Byron. Byron of course were crowned Prep House Football champions with a clean sweep of all the separate competitions. Overall, sixth place went to Sonakul, Nehru and Churchill finished 4th equal, Suriyothai finished third and second place went to Keller.
The morning was enjoyed by all, in somewhat trying and challenging conditions. All teams demonstrated fine sportsmanship, and played with purpose. Byron showed how deserving they were by winning each group, but all teams played extremely well and the tournament was closer fought than final results may indicate. Certain individuals shone on the day, and some teams, such as the Year 7 Suriyothai boys, played out of their skin to achieve a great final result.
Special thanks must go to the Mr. Staples, for organising the competition, as well as Khun Chaiyo and the referees. The House and Deputy House Captains also organised their respective teams well on the day, and demonstrated great leadership both on and off the field.
The special identity of the Harrow Prep School once again shone through, and all involved can be very proud of themselves.
