Students have structured time in the library from creche until Year 7. For younger students, this time is primarily about creating a love of reading and books. As students move towards Prep School, the focus of the lessons becomes the development of research skills. From Year 8 onwards, many Secondary classes use the library for project research and targeted reading.

The librarian's aim is to create a collection that finds a balance between materials that stimulate learning and research and those that encourage reading for pleasure. Resources therefore range from curriculum support texts and magazines to classic literature to graphic novels to popular fiction and picture books. The library also subscribes to a number of electronic resources, including Britannica Online, Tumblebooks and EBSCO.

This year there will a number of events taking place in the library. These include activities for English Week, and fun space-themed events for World Book Day. There will also be three book fairs run by the library during the school year.

The dates for this year's final Book Fairs are :

  • November 12-13 (2009)

  • March 4-5 (2010)

  • June 10-11 (2010)

Library hours are 7.30am-4.00pm, Monday to Friday, and 8.15-12 noon on Saturdays.

All parents and families of Harrow students are welcome to use the library as a place to relax and read, to borrow books, or to use the computers. The best time to come is before and after school, but if you are at school during class time and need to use the library, ask one of the librarians for help and they will be happy to assist.

The school library is a beautiful three storied building situated at the entrance to Harrow International School. The ground floor is the Primary School Library, while the first floor is allocated to Secondary, with Prep School using both sections. The top floor is used for various purposes but primarily as a research and examination area.
