Earlier this year Khun Korn Chatikavanij (former Finance Minister of Thailand) visited Harrow Bangkok and presented a talk to Sixth Form Economics and Business Studies students about his Kaset Khemkhaeng project and Imm Rice.  The project was inaugurated a little over three years ago to encourage chemical-free farming and provide marketing support as well as fair and better prices to local farmers.

This month a group of Economics and Business Studies students, accompanied by Miss Fanin and Mr Matthews, travelled to Nong Hin village in Mahasarakham province to meet with the community of growers, Khun Korn and his Imm Rice team.  They experienced first-hand the entire supply chain of rice production; from growing to processing and milling, then packaging and distribution, all of which takes place within the local community.  After a beautiful lunch was served by our incredibly generous hosts, the students saw how the silk fabric used for packaging was spun from silk worm cocoons, assisted in some rice planting, and even tried weaving on a hand loom.

We are looking to further develop our relationship with the Kaset Khemkhaeng project next academic year through a student-led social enterprise scheme, and look forward to visiting the Nong Hin community again. Thank you to all involved for such an amazing trip.
