Primary FOBISSEA Games 2010 – Tanglin International School, SingaporeAn unforgettable experience was had by all participants who were fortunate enough to compete in these quite superb Primary Games. Three days of competitive sport saw our Harrow Lions compete exceptionally well against some of the biggest International Schools in Asia.
As we boarded the plane for Singapore our team was fit, confident and in buoyant mood to do well at this annual competition. Day one saw us compete in our strongest team sport – Tee ball. Months of training finally came to the fore as both Year 5 and 6 teams completed the pool matches as champions. Year 4 came in a close second position, meaning all teams progressed to the semi finals. In a tense afternoon, and some outstanding batting and fielding Year 4 and 5 managed a very respectable bronze position. Year 6 on the other hand narrowly missed out on third by one run and ended the Tournament in fourth position. Blood, sweat and tears and many nerve racking moments ended a quite remarkable first days’ competition.

Day two saw The Harrow Lions compete in another one of our favourite team games – football. Year 6 boys and girls both started off superbly with 4-0 and 2-0 wins respectively. Other good wins were Year 5 boys 3-1 vs Garden School and 4-2 Shrewsbury. Other good results were our Year 5 Girls winning 1-0 vs Garden and our Year 4 boys with a very good win over Shrewsbury 3-0.
By lunchtime we had 3 teams through to the semi final. The Year 6 boys went into the semi final unbeaten but lost to a very strong Patana team 1-0. Year 6 girls lost out to KLASS girls 2-0 and the Year 5 boys lost narrowly to Phuket. Therefore after a long tiring day three teams finished in fourth position narrowly missing out on bronze medals. Fantastic performances from Cherry, Prim, birthday boy Glazey, Georgy, Nop, Gund, Nush and Miki.

Day three saw the most action with athletics followed by swimming. It was to be the Year 4’s day gaining 2nd in both the shuttle relay and Girls’ 4x100m relay. Remarkable runs for gold for Klara and Pia and tremendous jumping by Cherry gaining her first high jump gold! With too many medals to name, Harrow came away with a medal haul of 29 medals. Well done to all athletes. Lastly, it was off to the swimming pool for a very tiring end to the Games. Excellent swims by Prim, Cartoon, George Waddell, Harri Johnson and Im ensured that Harrow kept winning medals until the very end of the FOBISSEA programme.
To conclude, it was a remarkable 3 days of sport, bringing together team work, camaraderie and new friendships. I am sure all participants had a great time and will take away these memories for many years to come. Special thanks to all coaches: Mr. Williams, Miss Apple, Miss Jurado, Mr. Staples, Mr. Rodricks and Mr. Lipscomb; who prepared our athletes for the games and for the many parents who supported us through jubilant and traumatic times. I thank you all. Let us now look forward to Phuket 2011!
