It has been a fantastic first week back in the Primary School. On Monday the children arrived full of excitement and anticipation: where would their classroom be and which friends would they meet first? The children all looked very smart and it was great seeing the boys in the new school uniform.

I hope the children will take heed of our new Head Master’s words in our first Primary School assembly on Monday. Mr Kevin Riley urged the children to make the most of their time at school as there are many opportunities for them to try new things. I hope this year that all the children thoroughly enjoy coming to school; that the experiences in the classroom are exciting and challenging and they spend time exploring new opportunities.

Over the past week or so, we have welcomed many parents, both new and returning, to the school. We have had three very well attended ‘Meet the Teacher’ sessions. I hope you found these meetings useful and informative as well as giving you a chance to meet your child’s new teacher. We intend to have many more informative meetings over the course of the year where teachers will present a range of topics to you, allowing you to find out and understand more about your child’s time here at Harrow. In fact, there will be a presentation next week for any parents interested in becoming parent helpers and a K2 phonics workshop.

This year we welcome new teachers from the UK as well as teachers returning to Harrow after some time away. Joining the Year 1 team is Miss Gemma Salmon. Mr. Richard Marshall joins the Year 3 team, Mrs. Elaine Marshall is taking over the role of Primary Music coordinator and Miss Hannah Daykin is new to the Primary Learning Support team. There are three teachers who return to Harrow this year. Mrs Julie Ann Green is new to the K1 team, Mrs Sarah Emms is our new Infant School coordinator and Mr Jon Horsnell becomes the Deputy Head of Primary. I am sure both you and your children will make all these teachers feel very welcome during their first weeks at Harrow.

Wishing you and your family a relaxing weekend.

Juliet Staples,

Head of Primary
