The Prep School is now a year old. We were very happy with our first year and the achievements that were gained. Also, a lot of groundwork was put into the ‘culture’ of the school and the setting up of the many structures that are needed for success both in and out of the classroom. As we enter our second year with another intake of new pupils and parents, we are looking to build onto this pleasing start and to continue to both strengthen and evolve the many aspects that make up our school.
New Staff
We are very pleased to welcome Khun Jui, our new secretary to the Prep School. Khun Jui has come across from Administration and is now based in the Primary/Prep office. She will handle all parental inquiries and can arrange meetings with both myself and other staff members. I will have a new office downstairs (in Mrs Hanratty’s old office) when the Infant Block opens in 3 weeks. Bill Nordstrom will be our new Learning Support Co-ordinator. Bill has a lot of experience in this area and he will be based in my old office on the Prep Floor. We also welcome Caroline Stuckey to our ESL staff. One of our Teacher Assistants, Khun Khae, has left and has been replaced by Khun Pat. James Waugh, one of our English and ESL teachers is also our new Green Co-ordinator for the Prep and Primary School. This is developing into a very important feature at Harrow as it becomes crucially important to our Planet Earth. Jim will present his role in a future Harrovian.
Otherwise, our Prep staffing for classes is virtually the same as we had last year. This has helped tremendously as we develop our consistency and knowledge with this age group of children and to continue to develop the structures we set up last year.
Year 6 SATs results (2009)
I am very pleased to report to you the results of the SATs which last year’s Year 6 children took earlier in the summer. You may know that our results at Harrow over the last few years have been excellent, and I am delighted to be able to tell you that our pupils have performed tremendously well again this year. The English results were down somewhat on the previous two years which was also the case in the UK. We are justifiably very proud of the achievements of both our students and teachers.

What exactly do these results mean? An average child in Year 6 is expected to achieve a Level 4 in all areas. Level 5 is the highest achievable level in the Year 6 SATs. By the law of averages, of course, some children will score above level 4, and some below. Our results show that a considerable number of our pupils scored a level 5, above the average level, but relatively few scored a level 3. Congratulations to all our pupils for their hard work and determination, and to their dedicated and talented teachers, on this great success!
A very warm welcome to our new Year 6 parents and also to the new parents of Year 7 pupils. We look forward to working with you and your children. Please note that we have a new assembly time and venue. Assemblies will now be in the Drama Studio on Wednesdays at 2pm.
Evan Robson,
Head of Prep School
