Welcome to Lower School at Harrow
We are very proud of all we have achieved so far in our short history. As an educational establishment we are continually learning and working towards improving our services within the school community.
The Mission Statement of Harrow International School is:
To nurture the attitudes, knowledge and skills that encourage the aspiration of excellence in learning and living. To make this possible by providing students with a structured, disciplined and creative learning community in which school and home, seek together, to facilitate and celebrate each student’s search for identity, belonging and purpose.
In order to achieve its mission, Harrow International School seeks to draw on the reputation of Harrow School and its traditions; the diversity of its international community; the unique context of its host culture, Thailand, and the quality of British curricula, qualifications and teachers.
To achieve the different elements mentioned in the school’s Mission, we believe educational provisions and the setting of high expectations is extremely important. Our teachers provide a range of exciting learning experiences for all the children in the Primary School and children are encouraged to take opportunities to learn new skills.
We, as Harrow educationalists, take our responsibilities seriously. We hope that the following information offers an understanding of what we have to offer here in the Primary School at Harrow International School.
Overview of the Primary Curriculum The principles that underpin the Primary Curriculum at Harrow International School are the teaching of attitudes, knowledge, skills and concepts that encourage the aspiration of excellence in learning and living.
To achieve this, the pupils follow curriculum guidance from England and Wales.
This determines the content that will be taught and sets targets for learning. It helps to give teachers, pupils and parents a clear and shared understanding of the knowledge, skills and concepts that the pupils will gain whilst at Harrow. However, we ensure that our curriculum does reflect the needs, culture and history of our school’s multinational community and, of course, our host country Thailand.
Continuity and progression is achieved by building on pupils’ previous experiences and through planning exciting and challenging activities that further develop their knowledge, skills and understanding.
To ensure the quality of education received by pupils at Harrow is first rate, we carry out regular monitoring and assessment of their learning, as well as our own planning and teaching. This guarantees that our teaching matches pupils’ individual needs.
Specialist Lessons At Harrow International Primary School the pupils are fortunate as they have the opportunity to learn from specialist teaching in a number of subject areas.
Teachers, who are trained and qualified in specific subject areas, teach the pupils some of their lessons. This type of teaching helps to deepen their knowledge and understanding of those subjects.
Additionally, the pupils benefit as they move up through the school because the same teacher moves with them, which results in continuity of the teaching and learning they receive.
Co-Curricular Activities “Exploration, Enthusiasm, Excitement & Enjoyment” The activity programme at Harrow International School aims to provide our pupils with two opportunities; firstly to participate in activities they know that they enjoy and secondly, to discover and explore new activities which they can pursue throughout their years at Harrow.
Activities are offered by dedicated Harrow Staff and a selection of outside providers. Pupils are encouraged to commit long-term to activities where they can work through grades or levels, such as Ballet or Tae Kwon Do.
The programme is put together based on our experience of popular activities and the interests of our teachers and pupils.
