F1 in Schools
A multi-disciplinary challenge that promotes STEaM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) learning in the wider Harrow curriculum.
The curriculum is split into 3 competition classes and is open to all students aged between 6 – 19 years old. Participating in groups of 4 – 6 students, each team adopts real life roles used within Formula One racing; Resources Manager, Manufacturing Engineer, Design Engineer, Graphic Designer and Team Manager.
Teams research, design and manufacture model racing cars, learning about aesthetics, aerodynamic forces, performance, data analysis, business planning, mathematics and key principles of design, and wind and smoke tunnels for testing.
These skills are cultured to incorporate Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, data analysis using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and drag calculation software, Rapid Prototyping and 3D printing, Computerised Numerical Control (CNC) machinery to manufacture their car.
