Pre Prep Book Week

Pre Prep Book Week
Alexandra Costa, Deputy Head of Lower School

Lower School students spent last week immersed in the wonderful world of books! Nicola Davies, our guest author, inspired students with her knowledge of animals and the natural world, through storytelling sessions with her beautifully written and illustrated books. Our school governors joined the Pre Prep Big Read in Monday’s assembly, where every child ‘lost themselves’ inside their favourite books! During the week, classes paired up across different year groups to share some of their favourite books with each other. Our Year 5 students demonstrated what fantastic role models they are by giving up their lunch break to read to groups of our Pre Nursery and Nursery students. Playtimes were filled with book quizzes and trails, and lessons included fun reading activities, like the Year 3 Reading Club, where teachers brought in snacks for students to nibble whilst having deep and meaningful discussions about their books. The week ended in style, with our traditional ‘dress up as a book character’ day. A HUGE thank you to all Lower School parents for your support in helping to make this such a special day. The students looked AMAZING!!! The costumes get better and more creative every year and it was great to hear how lots of children helped their parents to design and make them. I am sure the memories our students have of Book Week will last a lifetime and help to instil a lifelong love of reading.
