100% success for English Speaking Board exam students!
In April our 31 English Speaking Board students from Years 2, 3, 4 and 5 took their exams. English Speaking Board has been an activity in Lower School since January 2020 for a group of children who were selected by their teachers for having strong speaking and listening skills. The English Speaking Board is an organisation in the UK which was set up in the 1950s to teach and assess individuals in their ability to communicate clearly and confidently – an essential skill in life.
For the examination, the children had to present a talk on a subject of their choice in front of a small group which was followed by a series of questions. They also had to introduce and recite a poem from memory. Finally, they read a section from a favourite narrative text. Due to Covid restrictions, the examination took place virtually with the examiners watching an asynchronous and continuous video in the UK. The grading criteria ranged from unsuccessful, pass, good pass, merit, merit plus and distinction. We are delighted to announce an 100% pass rate with all candidates achieving either a merit plus or distinction – the highest possible standards; truly outstanding results from our students!
Here at Harrow Bangkok, we recognise the importance of strong oracy skills in today’s world. So, we intend to offer the ESB qualifications to more of our students. More information about how this will be organised will follow on this in the near future.
